Bicycle thieves are usually out for a quick prey. Bicycle locks are available in all price ranges and quality levels. It is recommended to invest about 10 percent of the value of the wheel in a bicycle lock. Your bike should already be worth that to you. Remember, the longer it takes a thief to pick your bike lock, the greater the risk that someone will witness him stealing it. Whether you use one or two bike locks, always lock your bike to a solid object. Because only if you not only lock your bike, but also chain it to a secure object (e.g. lamppost, fence, bike stand), someone can't simply take your bike away. Different bike locks for different uses

The following bicycle locks are available: U-locks, chain locks, folding locks, armored cable locks, spiral locks, cable locks, frame locks. Even more secure than armored cable locks are chain locks. They consist of thick hardened chain links. As a rule, the chain links of a bicycle lock are enclosed in a sturdy synthetic fiber casing so as not to damage the paint of the bicycle. The chain, the casing and all the supporting parts of the locking mechanism are made of specially hardened steel. The locking cylinder provides protection against tampering (new German: Picking). Chain locks can be attached to the bike or, if they are long enough, casually slung around the waist while riding. They offer good protection in the event of a high risk of theft and are recommended for securing high-value bicycles. Chain locks are more flexible than U-locks due to their shape and, depending on their length, can also be tied around objects with a large diameter.
