Whether on an intensive training ride or an enjoyable bike ride, every cyclist should always take a sufficient amount of liquid on the road. Only those who regularly consume fluids in the form of mineral water, isotonic drinks, apple spritzer or herbal or fruit teas will remain healthy and able to perform. Even without sports activities, everyone should drink at least 1.5 - 2 liters daily. During strenuous activities such as jogging or cycling, we consume additional energy, most of which is converted into heat. We start to sweat and as sweat evaporates on our body, it cools down again. In order for this "cooling cycle" to function smoothly and for our bodies to be cooled down to operating temperature again and again, we need to drink enough on the road to replace the minerals we sweat out. Otherwise, there is a risk of a drop in performance at best and muscle cramps and impaired consciousness at worst.

Happily, you can replenish your fluid deficits and empty energy depots while cycling by grabbing your water bottle, which is handy in the water bottle holder, and taking a few sips regularly. Of course, it is also important that the water bottle can be securely fastened to the bike. This is ensured by special bottle cages made of plastic, metal, aluminum or carbon. The bicycle trade even offers special bottle holders for left-handers, so that the lateral removal of the bottle is no longer a problem for them either.

False holders are available in plastic or metal and the half-heavy carbon

Bottle holders made of carbon are about half as heavy as holders made of plastic or metal, but also come significantly more expensive. Nevertheless, these lightweights are an absolute must for all cyclists for whom every gram too much on the bike is a thorn in the eye. When choosing a water bottle holder, however, do not only pay attention to the material. Some water bottle holders are, for example, only suitable for aluminum water bottles, only for plastic water bottles or only for certain manufacturers of water bottles. Would be a pity if you have purchased a shapely drinking bottle holder, but their drinking bottle does not fit in.

Special solutions for left-handers, Fullys and ladies bikes

With some water bottle holders, you can remove the bottle from the side. This is not only interesting for left-handers, but also for those who call a bike with compact, ladies or fully frame their own. Due to the frame geometry, these bikes offer little space for bottle cages. But if you can remove your water bottle from the side, the top tube standing in the way no longer disturbs.

But there are also special adapters for this problem case for bikes with bottle cage holes. Such a bottle cage adapter allows the bottle cage mounted on it to swing out 15 degrees in both directions. This is also a super solution for fullys or ladies bikes.

Bottle holders for handlebars or saddle rails even allow you to carry a tool bottle

But water bottle holders can be attached not only to the frame. On bikes that don't have bottle cage holes, you can attach the bottle cage to the saddle rail or handlebars instead. The water bottle holders, which are attached to the saddle rail, usually offer space for two water bottles or one water bottle and one tool bottle. So you have not only his drink, but also the most important tool always handy, because tool bottles offer enough space for a tube, a minitool, patch kit and three tire levers plastic.

Whichever solution you choose, the important thing is that the water bottle is securely stowed in the water bottle holder, does not rattle and is easily accessible without having to avert your gaze from the road or traffic.
