In the past, almost all high-quality bicycle tyres had a light-coloured sidewall, as the high-quality casing was only covered with a little natural-coloured rubber. Simple bicycle tyres were plain black. Later on, all high-quality tyres were given this colour, which is now common on better tyres: black skinwall. In recent years, there has been a small trend towards natural colours again, starting with BMX. In 2017, MAXXIS offers Skinwall tyres for BMX, dirt and various MTB disciplines.
