Bicycle Bags buy cheap in Bike Bag Shop

If one does a trip, then he can tell what. I can still remember exactly my first little bike. It was yellow black and tiny and had an equally tiny bike bag attached to the saddle. This little bike bag was my pride and joy, along with the monstrous bell, because in it I could stow all the treasures I found along the way when I went on a bike ride with my parents. My bike also already had a luggage rack, but no real bike bags yet. On the rack, I usually had my beloved Teddy attached, which was already missing an eye and otherwise looked quite battered. My second bike was already a lot bigger, also had a luggage rack and was still equipped with all the components that make a child's bike a bike suitable for everyday use and traffic.

The first bicycle bags

If the bicycle tours on my "tiger bike" lasted felt days and in reality just a few hours, I was already taken on longer tours on my next larger children's bike. So I got my first bicycle bags. My teddy still had to come along, even though I would never have admitted that to my friends. Instead of jamming him brutally on the pastry rack like I used to, I stowed him in one of the two bike bags. I'd rather give up a pair of pants than my teddy. The bicycle bags were immensely practical. You could snap them onto the luggage rack with a flick of the wrist and attach them to the bottom of the rear wheel with an elastic strap. Since I was still small, my parents had naturally stowed most of my luggage in their bicycle panniers. My dad had a bike pannier that always reminded me of a saddle. That's why I always called his bike a horse, because when he would heave the two bike panniers onto his rack in the morning, he looked like a cowboy swinging the saddle on his horse. My parents' bike panniers were genius. No matter how much you put in them, there always seemed to be room inside. Almost like Hermione's purse in Harry Potter. Plus, the bike bags were totally waterproof. When I think about how often we were surprised by rain on the road. If our entire luggage would have been soaked, not to think. Probably I would have refused then already after the first cloudburst to continue. My father had stowed our repair kit and tools in a small saddle bag. So these important utensils were always at hand. My mother still had a handlebar bag. This handlebar bag had a transparent compartment at the top for the map. The remaining space in the handlebar bag was taken up by the entire contents of her handbag, and that was not exactly little.

Not every bike is suitable for bike bags

In my early 20s, I took my first bike tour abroad with a fellow student. In Ireland, we wanted to cycle along the east coast from Dublin to Cork. What I had not considered at the time was the fact that not every bike that has a rack is also suitable for longer bike tours. I had super bike bags and everything else you need for the trip, but a totally unsuitable bike. The weight of the bike bags was much too big for the bike. I had at the time a fairly cheap ladies bike with low entry and curved handlebars. The bike was sufficient for the trip to the bakery, but completely unusable for a longer bike trip. The weight of the panniers on the rack changed the handling of the bike to such an extent that I could barely keep up with my fellow student. The end result was then that we parted in Rosslare in evil. I went back with my bike and the bike bags on the ferry, she continued alone to Cork. For later bike tours, this experience was a lesson to me.

The small fine solution: saddle bike bags

My husband is also passionate about cycling. When we met, he owned a sleek road bike and an old ram for the way to the university. Since his road bike could not have an ounce too much, but he wanted to have his patch kit always with him, he bought a handy little bike bag that he could attach to the seatpost of his bike with a click system. This fastening system was simply ingenious, because not only his small bicycle bag could be attached to this holder, but also larger bicycle bags could be mounted on the bike with a flick of the wrist. If one made somewhere rest, one could take off the bicycle bag jerk tock and attach after the rest just as fast again. The holder itself is simply left on the wheel. Even weight fetishists among racing cyclists have such holders on their racing machine to take small bicycle bags.

For our first bike tour together, my husband and I bought high-quality trekking bikes. Given my experience in Ireland, I knew that for a longer bike tour you need not only good bike bags, but also a high-quality and robust bike, to which you can then attach these great bags. We have never regretted this investment. Even after 15 years and tens of thousands of kilometers on the hump or on the saddle, the wheels are simply still too good that we could part with them. Even the bike panniers are still tip-top. My husband has bicycle bags with roll closure. These bags are still as waterproof today as they were back then. Thanks to the high-quality workmanship, our luggage is always safe and dry in them.

Luggage solutions for the front wheel help with space problems

For smaller bike tours, we usually take only one bike bag. Do we have more luggage, the second bike bag is also mounted on the wheel and should that still not be enough, we have acquired a luggage solution for the front wheel. However, we do not always have this mounting system mounted. Only when our normal bike bags are not enough, it is mounted so that we can take additional bike bags. If you also want to attach bags to the front of the bike, you should make sure that the luggage is not too heavy. Otherwise, the bike will start to lurch. As a rule of thumb is 2/3 to 1/3, ie the rear panniers should carry 2/3 of the weight and the front panniers only 1/3.

Vario bike bags: from bike bag to backpack

As I said, our bike bags are still in good shape. Nevertheless, we have of course also flirted with the purchase of new panniers. In particular Vario bicycle bags have done it to us. Vario bike bags are "egg-laying lambs". They can be transformed into full-fledged backpacks. Especially on steep descents, such bike bags offer the advantage that you can carry them on your back. Then the space on the luggage rack is free and you can effortlessly shift your weight to the back by going behind the saddle with your buttocks. If you then make a rest, you can simply shoulder the bike bags and effortlessly take them with you. There one could become naturally already weak. Our old bicycle bags also have no reflective stripes at all. In the past, manufacturers have not yet thought of such practical helpers. Today, reflective stripes on bicycle bags and panniers - whether mounted on the front or rear of the bike - are standard equipment for renowned manufacturers. So you are always clearly visible to other road users even at dusk and in poor visibility, because the bike bags themselves may hide the spotlights and reflective strips mounted on the wheel.
