With a roller trainer or exercise bike you can build up and control your endurance and riding techniques very efficiently. For example, when hill training, you can use the roller trainer to simulate inclines and declines that you may not have on your doorstep. Therefore, roller trainers are also a better training tool for ambitious cyclists than normal ergometers. High-quality roller trainers are equipped with sensors that monitor the cyclist. The power cycled, cadence, virtual speed and heart rate are transmitted electronically and evaluated to optimize the training. Even sprints can be simulated and some devices even allow side-to-side rocking for this purpose.

There is the right training device for every requirement

Roller trainers are available for beginners as well as for the higher demands of professional cyclists. The entry into winter training on the roller is already available for under 150 euros. When pushed together, small roller trainers measure less than 80 cm, making them easy to transport and store. If you don't feel safe enough on the roller, you can get a training device for a good 200 euros, in which you can clamp your bike. Such exercise bikes are ideal for warming up and for training sessions at home. If you want to spend a little more, you can choose a training machine that can be connected to a PC. This gives you the opportunity to virtually retrace stages. Regardless of whether you choose a roller trainer, exercise bike or ergometer, you should plan your winter training carefully and always combine it with other endurance sports so that the fun doesn't fall by the wayside and training successes can be seen. And when you look at it in the light, nobody lasts longer than 1-2 hours on the roller anyway. The training requires so much concentration and is still relatively monotonous that you should really only train the cycling-specific muscles on the roller. Aerobic endurance can also be acquired through sports such as jogging and cross-country skiing.
