You don't always want to take your bike to the bike repair shop for every little breakdown and flat tire? You want to maintain, service and repair your bike yourself? Then you need a suitable tool set or have to assemble appropriate tools yourself. To be able to perform maintenance and repair work on your bike, you also need enough space. You will need the 8, 9 and 10 mm open-end wrenches if you want to tighten or fix the screws on your luggage rack, lamp or mudguards.A set of Allen wrenches between 2 and 10 mm thick should also not be missing from any toolbox. Use the short part for tightening bolts.Be sure to get a mini tool for on the go. You can easily store it in a saddlebag and on rides it will provide you with great assistance. Another tool that should not be missing is a needle nose pliers. They do a good job when you need to tighten or readjust cables. The pliers should be as narrow as possible so that they can be used in tight places. The jaw surfaces should be clean and free of grease.Since shift and brake cables need to be renewed, shortened or adjusted from time to time, you should also get a Bowden cable cutter. The inside of this tool is also suitable for attaching cable end caps to brake cables to protect the latter from fraying.For repairs to the chain, bottom bracket and bicycle sprocket, you need the following tools: crank puller, crank wrench, chain riveter, chain whip or cassette puller.

Whether investing in special tools makes sense for you depends on your skills as a "screwdriver" and the budget you are inclined to spend. Some special tools, such as tools for loosening the sprocket set, go so really in the money and are more suitable for a specialist workshop.

Fixed places avoid constant searching

Quite important for screwing on the wheel is the following: Order is half the battle. Nothing is more annoying than the constant search for the appropriate tool. So determine an exact place for each tool and put it there again after each operation.

Memorize the exact sequence of parts when disassembling even when repairing and maintaining your bike.
